Students share the reasons they wear a mask and some fears of quarantine and Covid-19.
My name is Jakob Jones, and I'm a junior communication major. Along with school, I work
full-time as a manager at Larosa's. Unfortunately, for many college students who work on hourly pay, if we get sick with COVID-19 we lose big time because we are unable to work during the quarantine.
We lose out on an opportunity to make money and support ourselves through this pandemic. I wear my mask so that I can stay safe around my family, friends, and co-workers. It's important for me to wear my mask so that I can work to afford rent, food, internet, and
everything else required to live. When we all wear our masks, we do our part in making our
community a safe place to be!
My name is Shelby Sherrill, I am a senior here and I am studying sociology. Not only do I wear the mask for the obvious reasons of protecting myself and others from COVID. I wear my mask to be able to financially support myself as a working college student. At the beginning of the fall semester, I had to quarantine for two weeks even after testing negative for COVID because of possible symptoms.
Going into quarantine may not affect school as much because one is able to still to attend classes online and through zoom. As for work, this is a whole other issue, I am still financially recovering from having to quarantine those two weeks. My hope is for students and faculty to continue following campus COVID restrictions seriously because the majority of college students do not get paid while in quarantine.
