Student ID changes & the importance of Mental Health

Updated: May 30, 2023

Back at the beginning of the semester, returning students may have been confused as to why they had to get a new student ID. The differences between the new and old ID’s may seem minimal at first but are apart of a much larger picture.

The hotlines for Domestic Violence, Sexual Assult and Suicide Prevention were all added to the back of student ID’s. “It’s very important we have them,” says Antwone Cameron, Dean of Student Affairs. "One of the things a student always has with them is their phone and their student ID, so having these resources available is great.” Cameron says.

Additionally, in the current climate of Covid-19 students are not only at risk of possibly catching the virus but the effects of isolation that follow it. Melissa Mauser, Thomas More Universities Campus Counselor thinks that having these numbers are useful resources to students who need someone to talk to.

“Being alone for that long can be very stressful and having someone there even just to listen to you can make a great difference.” Mauser says.

With October 10th being World Mental Health Day, we are breaking down the social stigma that has been placed before us through conversation and compassion. Melissa Mauser is offering free telehealth appointments to talk through these stressful times.
