Covid talk with St. Elizabeth Nurse

Updated: May 30, 2023

There tends to be a lot of confusion with the current pandemic taking place in our community. With it being such a new virus, we cannot be sure what to expect because there hasn’t been enough time to research or plan for action. To clear the air, I spoke with a St. Elizabeth nurse and she answered a few questions on what changing weather means for your health and how you can stay safe when the season changes.

What does the change in seasons mean for the COVID-19 virus?

With it being such a new virus, we aren’t sure what the effect will be. There is no way to tell because we have never had the virus prevalent in this area during a season change.

What can students do to stay safe and prepare as the seasons change?

We recommend that the students maintain wearing masks in public and washing hands especially with flu season coming up as well. If you feel sick, stay away from others, and continue to follow the guidelines.

With the media is swarming around the virus and creating different narratives about what is truly safe. It has been shared across social media that guidelines do not apply during cold weather. As more people retweet and like it could be causing less informed people to lower their guard. Here is what St. Elizabeth's nurse had to counter those tweets.

Rumor: Just because it is cold, I won’t get the virus, so I don’t need to follow the guidelines.

There is nothing that we have seen that would support that. We keep our recommendations the same. Proper handwashing and exposure control techniques are important as we are entering the flu season as well.
