Student members of the Cleves Scholar Program have found a new way to give back to students in need with the Compassion Pantry! What is it? The compassion pantry is a student-led community outreach that offers supplies to students who need them the most. From food, hygiene products, and more to have easy access on campus to such services. The Cleves Scholar Program was split into 7 groups where first-year and sophomore students have been tasked with how to build community on campus and meet the needs that arise in college.
“All students should look at and know of the Pantry, as It is available for everyone who is in need in any situation.” Says Sophmore leader David Moore. “It is a great resource that has already been put into use countless times. It is fully stocked and ready!”
The pantry can be found in room 3302, near the Mac lab and Business department. Students can find shelves filled with non-perishable foods such as soup, cereal, toothpaste, hygiene products, and much more. Visitors are encouraged to take what they need, and also encouraged to donate any goods that can apply to the program in bins located near the library and also Starbucks. You can follow the pantry on Instagram @tmucompassionpantry for updates and giveaways revolving around donations to the pantry.
The Cleves Scholars have a plan for the pantry to be continuously supported through the future for the students of today and of tomorrow. So stop by room 3302 and get some goods when you need them, and donate what you want to pass along to the goodwill!
Lastly, there will be a showcase for the Cleves Compassion Pantry on April 20th in Steigerwald from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm, where visitors will be able to meet the faces behind the pantry and see how it came to be.
