Saints' Baseball Weekend Sweep

Saints are on a four-game win streak from over the weekend and Tuesday afternoon.


The Saints traveled to the University of Tennessee Southern for a series of three games over the weekend. Sweeping the competition by coming out on top in all three games.


In-game one the Saints took the lead early. They were up 6-1 in the top of the second inning. Senior Bailey Martin doubled to center field to clear the bases with three RBIs bringing home Sophomore Gavin Pearson, Senior Casey Nowak, and First-year Gavin Vogelgesang. The Saints scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning and the top of the sixth inning beating the Firehawks 11-1.


In-game two the Saints were trailing the Firehawks up until the seventh inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Senior Brett Benzinger hit a home run to right field bringing home Sophomore Brady Baldock. In the top of the seventh inning, Nowak scored, making the score 4-5. Pearson and Martin hit back-to-back home runs to left field taking the lead 6-5. The Firehawks scored again in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game back up 6-6. In the top of the ninth inning, Baldock singled to right field bringing home Junior Noah Weingartner and Pearson securing the Saints’ win with a score of 8-6.


Game three was a nine-inning game with the Saints fighting back in the eighth and ninth inning. The Firehawks were up 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth inning, Nowak put the Saints on the board 1-3. Baldock singled to right field, sending home Weingartner and Martin tying up the game 3-3. First-year Aj Eninger singles to left field giving Baldock a score and the Saints take the lead. The Firehawks scored 3 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning taking back the lead. The Saints came back swinging with Junior Jacob Caruso hitting a single to right field bringing home Martin and Pearson to tie the game back up 6-6. Caruso scored on a wild pitch giving the Saints the win 7-6.




The Saints played Miami- Hamilton Tuesday coming out with a huge victory of 10-2. Gradute student pitcher Kyle Fieger threw a great game today staying on the mound for all nine innings.


The Saints take on Wright State-Lake this weekend playing a double header Friday starting at noon here at Thomas More. Saturday the Saints will head up to Wright State-Lake in Celina OH for another double header starting at 1:00 p.m.
